For Confluence #3 DAI returns to the warm and welcoming premises of NAC in cold and wintry Nida, located on a remarkable small strip of land, wedged in between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. Here we (students, tutors, guests, crew) are to contribute to the defining four curriculum components of our program and the conversations, discussions and movements extending within, around and beyond them.
We welcome our How To Do Things With Theory tutors and guests for three full days of seminars and writing classes; Mayra A. Rodríguez Castro, Sladja Blazan (IRL) & Ana Teixeira Pinto (online), Amit S. Rai, Ghalya Saadawi, Grant Watson and Hypatia Vourloumis. We are further delighted to have our alum Bethany Crawford returning to DAI as third cycle researcher contributing to our Academic Writing sessions as well as to APRiCot 2025 (to be introduced during this Confluence). HTDTWT's research curator is Dina A. Mohamed.
Seven COOP tutorial teams and their guests join us for 4 full days of collaborative study and practice; Noor Abuarafeh, Leo Asemota, Frédérique Bergholtz, Chiara Cartuccia, Marina Christodoulidou, Jurga Daubaraitė, Manuela Garcia Aldana, Alessandra Ferrini, Samira Ghoualmia, Aziza Harmel, Egija Inzule, Mokia Dinnyuy Manjoh, Harun Morrison, Snejanka Mihaylova, Itziar Okariz, Emiddio Vazquez, Leire Vergara & Jonas Žukauskas. COOP's leader is Flip Driest.
For the COOPs of the academic year 2024-2025 we are teaming up with: De Appel Amsterdam (Amsterdam), Archive Ensemble (Berlin, Dakar, Milan), Bulegoa z/b (Bilbao), If I Can't Dance I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution (Amsterdam), Hosting Lands (Copenhagen), Neringa Forest Architecture (Nida) and SAVVY Contemporary (Berlin).
Maria Hlavajova, Yulia Krivich (and Vaiva Grainyte TBC) will engage in a choreographed conversation with 10 student presenters, in the setting of the KITCHEN which is, as always, convened by DAI's artistic director Gabriëlle Schleijpen, with Peter Sattler as production supervisor, while Elisa Giuliano will join us in Nida to further engage on a series of face to face conversations with 2nd year presenters.
WEAVER offers a beautifully wild compilation of student led classes, as well as the second iteration of Sophia Zbinovsky Braddel's food research laboratory 'How To Cook Things While Roaming'.Weaver's education leader is Nikos Doulos (this Confluence working remotely).
DAI's four defining Curriculum Components HTDTWT, COOP, KITCHEN and WEAVER, and their specific thematic propositions for the current academic year are elaborately introduced by means of our Syllabus 2024-2025
Palestine Teach Out#7 is convened by the Egija Inzule (NAC) and Gabriëlle Schleijpen (DAI) and brings our guests Maria Hlavajova, Yulia Krivich and Goda Jurevičiūtė, together with the DAI & NAC communities, pondering on why Palestine matters for everyone and how it stands for a struggle that is especially relevant in the Post-Soviet countries, undoing their national narratives.
