Emiddio Vasquez

Emiddio Vasquez, is a Cypriot-Dominican artist and musician with a formal training in philosophy and mathematics. His work engages with material transformations that blur the "encoding-decoding" processes and protocols across media and serves as a strategy for engaging with the larger ideological infrastructures at stake. Without ever losing sight or interest in the human condition and its social reality, he reweaves personal memories, historical research and media technologies, often assuming collaborative forms, to look at what subjects emerge from new forms of mediated sensing.

As of 2018, he directs the Cypriot-based record label Moneda, and along with Peter Eramian, he also works as Lower Levant Company (LLC), co-representing Cyprus in the 60th Venice Biennale. His most recent works or performances have been shown in places like: Cafe Oto, Lenbacchaus (Munich), GfZK (Leipzig), Beirut Art Center, MACRO (Rome), and Irtijal Festival.

In his academic research through which he is completing a PhD in Media Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University, he interrogates the philosophical and aesthetic implications of dealing with digitality from a materialist standpoint, where resonance serves a concept that mediates computation and matter.
