Palestine Teach Out #2

The DAI community does not exist in a bubble: many of us are deeply affected and moved by the genocide that is happening under our eyes - with the complicity of our governements. At the initiative of the theory tutors and some COOP tutors we have decided to make "Palestine"part of our curriculum 2023-2024. For this DAI confluence we welcome the collective Subversive Film as well as the director Eyal Sivan for screenings, a lecture and a workshop. Read more about the Palestine Teach Outs. 

Roaming Academy 2023-2024

The itinerary for our Roaming Academy in 2023-2024 has been mapped out by the DAI crew, to be activated, animated and expanded by students, and faculty. This year we engage in location related partnerships with NAC (Nida Art Colony, Lithuania), Centrale Fies (Art Work Space for the production of contemporary performing arts in Dro, Italy), Vleeshal (Center for Contemporary Art in Middelburg, the Netherlands), Le18 (multidisciplinary cultural centre in Marrakech, Morocco) and Dar Souiri (cultural centre in Essaouira, Morocco) and of course beloved PAF (Performing Arts Forum) in the former monastery of the tiny village of St. Erme in the North of France where, in November we kicked of the academic year 2023-2024 and where we are now returning for Confluence nr. 3 in March.

This Kitchen iteration sees 13 student presenters, while our guests Joy Mariama Smith and Edwin Nasr will share their improvised responses and reflections with the presenters and performers and with the student body at large.The Kitchen is convened by Gabriëlle Schleijpen, with Peter Sattler as production leader and as always luminously activated by student presenters, while Elisa Giuliano will return to PAF to further engage on a series face to face conversations with 2nd year presenters in preparation of the AEROPONIC ACTS 2024.

SUNDAY March 3

KITCHEN continuation till lunch. 

Essaouira Prelude ~ in preparation for DAI Confluences 4 +7 which will both take place in Essaouira, the city that for many years served as Morocco's principal port, offering the goods of the caravan trade to the world. The route brought goods from sub-Saharan Africa to Timbuktu, then through the desert and over the Atlas mountains to Marrakesh ~ we have invited Laila Hida, co-founder and director of LE 18 in Marrakesh.

On the 3th of March at 17:00 Laila will offer an online introduction to her research, her work for LE18 as it is embedded in the cultural fabric of Morocco and Essaouira’s significance in that. For April 23rd during DAI Confluence 4, Laila is in the process of convening and curating Roaming Assembly#31 a public symposium to be hosted by cultural centre Dar Souiri in Essaouira.

Factory ~ as always with the amazing input of our entire student body to a day packed with Student Led Activities, all fully part of our accredited curriculum. 

This year the WEAVER team consists of Nikos Doulos, Florian Göttke and Gabriëlle Schleijpen.

MONDAY March 4

On the 4th of March we are pleased to welcome theatre makers (among other artistic activities) Myriam Sahraoui and Leendert Vooijce joining us online for a presentation of their professional and personal experiences as members of the acclaimed, Amsterdam based theatre collective Female Economy, in the context of the different exchanges and projects they are involved in with their Moroccan artistic partners.

The foundation for this year's COOP partnerships with:  If I Can't Dance I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution (Amsterdam), Bulegoa z/b (Bilbao), Neringa Forest Architecture (Nida), ARCHIVE (Berlin, Dakar, Milan),  de Appel Amsterdam (Amsterdam), has been laid by DAI's artistic director and head of program Gabriëlle Schleijpen. All partnering institutions have been commisioned to curate and tutor a year-long study group trajectory.
