We commend BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, for its brilliant selection of 2023/2024 Fellows as we are excited to know that Teresa Borasino (DAI, 2005), Iliada Charalambous (DAI, 2023) and Maoyi Qiu (DAI, 2022) will be working alongside other, equally purposeful artists~activists within the BAK Fellowship for Situated Practice post-academic program, taking place in a federated constellation of two research cells in Istanbul and Utrecht. The Fellows have been selected on the basis of their proposals to develop experimental research within the expanded field of contemporary art and in connection with the overarching research trajectory “Alignment/Nonalignment”—a layered and urgent geopolitical proposition pertaining to the questions of organization, positionality, and solidarity. This research focus emerged in the context of the 2021/2022 edition of the BAK Fellowship for Situated Practice and was specifically prompted by the unjustifiable military invasion of Ukraine: a chain of events that strengthened the refusal of all forms of imperialism and amplified the need for practices of sharing and reconnection with collectivist initiatives, non-official histories, and subterranean legacies that have enacted and cultivated solidarities against the grain of imposed archives, identities, and structures. We will collectively revel, snack, listen, sip, sing and shimmy our way through the night together, all for a good cause. This hybrid performance night / festive reading session/ bar night / late night party aims to create connections between contributors, neighbours, and students, friends and alumni, from the Dutch Art Institute and beyond. Importantly, it also aims to raise money for the DAI Friends & Alumni Grant, an alumni-run grant that will be awarded to non-EU student(s) experiencing financial distress in their final year of study at the DAI." ~ Click to READ MORE & APPLY

Laura Dubourjal (DAI, 2022) is launching her namesake fashion studio and will be presenting the studio’s first collection during a launch event on October 13th at Care Design lab, in Amsterdam. Laura Dubourjal is an interdisciplinary studio in which fashion meets performance and theatricality while focusing on the 3R of the recycling system -Re-duce, -Re-use, -Re-cycle; through repurposing and personalising items. The first collection named "Grandma wants me to be a housewife" will be revealed.
