This workshop comes as an extension to the lecture entitled " Sex labor and the geography of sin: A history of the brothels of Tunis." There, we will try to engage with the large variety of textual techniques used to represent sex labor and ranging from legal colonial documents to erotic medieval poetry and orientalist travelogue accounts. This will be an opportunity to widen the scope of the talk and tackle the broader issues of the profane, the sacred, the secluded and the forbidden in the city. Participants will be working towards an sonic/audiovisual manifestation of the encounter in the prospects of it finding a place in the upcoming Roaming Assembly editions.

How do we hear truth in a collective voice?

Taking Radio Ballads as a starting point and the words of Charles Parker, this workshop will consist of vocal and listening exercises interrogating voice as testimony, addressing oral history and the body as both forms of resilience and resistance. The workshop will move towards a collective oral performative outcome.
