2020 - 2021 ~ WEAVER: Unruly Beings
Weaver: an initiative facilitated by the Planetary Campus team and calling for the formation of a group of students to engage on weaving the relational space among the curators and guests of upcoming Roaming Assemblies and the DAI community at large.
Weaver takes as a (given) starting point the conceptual and contextual parameters or each Roaming Assembly edition and knits the roof under which each symposium’s organizational components and its participatory/co-creative potential are projected, propositioned and actualized. To that extend Weaver is envisioned as a small unit (with the possibility of temporal expansions/recruits) implementing a range of skill sets and assuming a variety of positions: learner, participant, recruiter, reporter, co-producer, co-organiser and host.
It’s first year of initiation, Weaver stood as a pilot calling for the formation of a group of students to engage on weaving the relational space among the curators and guests of upcoming Roaming Assemblies and the DAI community at large.
Weaver took as a (given) starting point the conceptual and contextual parameters of Roaming Assembly#29 presents Sonsbeek Council#3 ~ SEXWORK IS HONEST WORK - an ongoing invocation convened by sonsbeek20→24 and knitted the roof under which the symposium’s organizational components and its participatory/co-creative potential were projected, propositioned and actualized. To that extend Weaver was envisioned as a small unit (with the possibility of temporal expansions/recruits) implementing a range of skill sets and assuming a variety of positions: learner, participant, recruiter, reporter, co-producer, co-organiser and host.

Unruly Beings is a sonic rehearsal/ from gendered labour to sex work.
This Weaver session is an invitation to 10 current DAI students for a collective study, speaking and broadcasting together by tracing the ways gender, spatial politics, intimate labour and race intersect at the margins of societies. The radical work and conversations sex workers, initiatives and activist organizations are having question our society’s addication to the market, work and the precarious conditions and coercion under neoliberal capitalism. “They are critiques of a legal system that implements policing to keep the “sacred” out of markets while enabling corporations to profit on the caging of human beings.”
In what ways can we unlearn the empowerment/exploitation binary that is synonymous with the discourse around sex and intimate work? What do we need to urgently consider when we are theorizing and thinking through a practice of gendered, sex, intimate work? Throughout our Weaver days, we’ll broadcast our rehearsals and study via sonsbeek’s Parasite radio live from WALTER books in Arnhem.
Unruly Beings is a prelude to Roaming Assembly#29 presents Sonsbeek Council#3 ~ SEXWORK IS HONEST WORK - an ongoing invocation convened by sonsbeek20→24. For this Weaver we take our cues from deviant workers.
