GENERAL ASSEMBLY

"The General Assembly is an open invitation to all students to discuss our way of being inside the DAI, activated and organized by the student body with the aim to find a moment and space (where ever in the world), each DAI-week, to be all together and talk about issues and questions that need to be voiced, including anything regarding the educational structure we are working in."

January 2023 ~ GA XL

Facilitated by Elif Cadoux

Organizational Support by Iliada Charalampous and Cornelia Isaksson

Working Group Facilitation by Meii Soh, Thamyres Matarozzi, Dalia Maini, Max*ine Vajt, and Iarlaith Ni Fheorais.

When: Friday, January 20th 14h-18:30h

Where: NAC: Exhibition Space, Working Group Locations (TBA)

The General Assembly is the place we come to organise ourselves and exercise our collective agency within the educational structure of the DAI. The GA is by us, the GA is for us! We improve our conditions by working together, bringing together our vast network of skills, temperaments, and gifts.

Every once in a while, we need more ample time to work together and decide concrete proposals to the COUNCIL and actions to pursue as a student body. Thus - the GA XL!

We will break up into working groups including: Archives & Collective Knowledge, Accessibility, Environmental Responsibility, Kitchen Feedback, and Leisure & Expanded Wellness. These groups will have a brainstorming session, a share out to the GA, and then a second session to solidify action items for students to usher themselves and for Council members to bring to Gabriëlle.

We hope everyone joins to articulate concerns, map paths forward, and actuate some changes as a student body!

Agenda:

14h00 - Roll, Introduction, and Framing - 30 min

14h30 - First Working Group Session - 45 min

15h15 - Working Group Share Out - 1 hour 15 min

16h30 - Guided Embodied Exercise and/or Break - 30 min

17h - Second Working Group Session - 30 min

17h30 - Second Share Out and Commitments for Action - 1 hour

18h30 - Closing Activity

February 2022 ~ GA XL: What moves us?

When: Monday 21  (10:30 - 17:00)

Where: Buitencentrum Overasselt

During the last General Assembly (GA) held at NIDA, the idea came up to use a day of the upcoming Student Led-day in January 2022 to reflect together on our study program at the DAI and the things we find important.

We would like to create different working groups on that day to share each other's thoughts on the topics listed below. For now, maybe there is no need to put pressure on ourselves to extract specific goals or outcomes but more to expand on the directions we would like certain aspects of our study to take on, in the future.

This day could allow the student body to be in contact beyond the GA about events and approaches that concern our roaming study program - since various concerns were phrased during the last GA. And at the end of the day, all the groups can come together for a collective conversation where the main points of each working group can be discussed with everyone.

Perhaps in this manner, the first rhizomatic connections will emerge that signal the extent to which those individual topics are mutually dependent and what would be the most appropriate approach for us to move forward. This day is of course not obligatory but more of an attempt to open up the space for further conversation among us, beyond the relatively short time-frame of the GA.

Each individual participation during this day will be a vital contribution since these topics concern us all, for our time together at the DAI – and beyond.

Our schedule looks like this so far:
10:30 - movement class / yoga / slow coffee / etc
10:30 - 11:45 - round 1  (moderated small group discussion of chosen topic)
11:45  - 12:00 break
12:00 - 13:15 - round 2  (moderated small group discussion of chosen topic)
13:15 - 13:30  - break
13:30- 15:00 - LUNCH
15:00 - 17:00 - GA XL   (digesting & sharing small group discussion as a larger group)

The primal General Assembly took place in June 2018, in Athens during the COOP SUMMIT as an integral part of the outcome of the REALTY study group.

Since then each new generation has managed to keep the format alive, in close conversation with the DAI's COUNCIL.

This student intiative is facilitated by DAI by making it part of the syllabus 2022-2023 and by providing space and time for gathering. It is embedded in the curriculum component Factory 2.0 and participation is credited with ECTS.
