Life after DAI 2024 ~ Navigating (the) Art World(s)

Life after DAI is one of the building blocks of the WEAVER curriculum component. As of 2022 DAI has annually organised advisory gatherings at Centrale Fies located in the Valle dei Laghi in Trentino, Italy, whereby selected advisors are invited to engage in conversations with the soon to be graduating second year students.

The 2024 Life after DAI advisors are: Laura AlexanderRaphael Daibert, Harun Morrison and Isabelle Sully

This year the Life after DAI advisory sessions are centered around the student's draft bio’s. Towards the end of the two-year journey with DAI, each student is required to share a "bio", which is to be published at our Alumni Embassy. Preparing and sharing a bio is mandatory and accredited with ECTS.

The Alumni Embassy pages are partially self-directed, meaning that the student is responsible for the text of the actual bio, while from the part of DAI an individual photo-portrait is offered and links are created to a representation of DAI related achievements (thesis abstract, documentation of the AEROPONIC ACTS etcetera).

In 2024 DAI commisioned Alaa Abu Asad to take care, not only of a final group portrait, but also of 38 individual portraits ~ Alaa will be present at Centrale Fies. Students are advised to think ahead of what they want to wear and what (eventual) prop they want to bring to the shoot.  

 

DAI’s requirements /conditions for each bio text:

  • 4-9 (max) KEYWORDS to frame the specific Alumni Embassy page (see generation 2021)
  • Bio’s will always be published in Third Person (she/he/ they/it) and edited accordingly if necessary.
  • Bio's can focus on achievements or on aspirations, or offer a combination of both.
  • There is no minimum nor maximum number of words. However: very short or very long bio’s will certainly be less valued by the (many !) visitors of our Alumni Embassy.
  • Always take care of fair and accurate crediting when listing projects and events. 
  • Alumni are welcome to contact DAI for an update of their bio whenever relevant. 
  • This year’s HARD deadline for the bio is the 15th of August 2024 (so they must be finalized right after Centrale Fies so that the ECTS can be processed for the certificate).

For the sessions at hand on the 29th,30th and 31th of July we've asked all second year’s to send us a draft version of the bio they would like to see published at the Alumni Embassy. This draft will be the departure point for the personalized Life after DAI conversation of ONE hour.

Some folks will be happy to be guided towards a stronger, more compelling bio, while others might prefer to use the bio as the opening to a conversation with their advisor about expectations, dreams, doubts and concerns around the navigation of (the) Art World(s).
