Sara Benaglia is a visual researcher and a writer based in Bergamo, where she runs the no-profit space BACO-BaseArteContemporaneaOdierna. She is also a lecturer at NABA in Milan in the Faculty of Design.
Sara Benaglia has pursued her studies at the Dutch Art Institute (MA Art Praxis, 2019), CCA, Kitakyushu (Postgraduate Research Program, 2013), Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan (BA Painting, 2012), and Accademia di Belle Arti G. Carrara, Bergamo (BA Theory and Technics of Contemporary Art, 2009) and
worked as artist assistant for Joan Jonas (2013) and Chiara Fumai (2011-12).
Sara collaborates with the magazines ATPdiary - where she has a column dedicated to post-photography - Doppiozero and Art e Dossier, where she focuses her essays on the hidden interconnection between humanism and the matrix of race in the “Italic” Renaissance context.
Sara Benaglia is the author of the books The Mobility of the Matrix (Lubrina 2021), Casting the Circle (Fortino Editions 2015) and co-author of Metafotografia(3). Imagomorfosi e altre ricerche (Skinnerboox 2021), Metafotografia(2). Le mutazioni delle immagini (Skinnerboox 2020), Metafotografia. Dentro e oltre il medium nell’arte contemporanea (Skinnerboox 2019).
In March as well as August 2022 Sara Benaglia will be hosting DAI-Weeks in Bergamo.
