2021-2022 Factory 2:0: SOUND TECHNIQUES

Led by João Polido

When: November 11th  (17:00 - 19:00)

Where: tba

SOUND TECHNIQUES is a space to navigate together a range of audio production concepts, technologies and techniques.

As a first step, I invite everyone to share their experiences and knowledge in working with sound (if any)—let’s discuss sound as material, its physical properties, psychoacoustics, examples of conceptual approaches and which technological environments we use that inform our production (i.e. whether that be hardware-based, or any audio-specific or video editing software).

>>> “The technical environment is the cognitive environment” - Mark Fell. <<<

From there, on an inquiry-basis, a few topics will be prioritised so we can go in depth.

Join in regardless if you already work with sound or have no previous experience with the material at all. Get familiar.

Note: the session will be Ableton-based, so grab an Ableton trial version if possible. However, it is fine if you work with any other DAW (e.g. Logic, Garageband, FL Studio, Pro Tools, etc…) as most of what we’ll speak about is transversal to each of these systems.

+ bring headphones!

This student initiative is facilitated by DAI by making it part of the syllabus 2021-2022 and by providing space and time for gathering. It is embedded in the curriculum component Factory 2.0 and participation is credited with ECTS.
