We are proud to share with you that our supersmart and very dear alum Aarti Sunder (DAI, 2015) will soon be joining MIT as a fully funded masters student at the Art, Culture and Technology programme in the Architecture department.
Originally from Chennai, Aarti Sunder completed her BFA at the Rachna Sansad Academy of Fine Arts and Craft in Mumbai. In 2012 she was awarded with a Sarai Fellowship. Coming to Arnhem in 2013, Aarti obtained her MFA from the Dutch Art Institute in 2015. To support her studies in the Netherlands Aarti was awarded with the ArtEZ scholarship.
After DAI she was an artist in residence at the ISCP (International Study & Curatorial Program) in New York, received a fellowship from the Inlaks Shivdasani foundation and completed a nine-month residency at Ashkal Alwan in Beirut. It is great that she will now have the chance to deepen her research, not only again as a masters student, this time at the Art, Culture and Technology programme in the Architecture department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but also at the pilot lab for Transmedial Storytelling, to work as a researcher under Professor Caroline Jones for several years !
Aarti cheerfully writes us this would not have been possible without the DAI's support and she wishes to especially mention some tutors past and present, namely: Bassam el Baroni, Doreen Mende, Ghalya Sadaawi and Tirdad Zolghadr.
