URGENT practical information in regard to DAI Confluence 1

Dear incoming and returning students,

Lovely to meet you all in two weeks from now at PAF (Performing Arts Forum) in St-Erme, France, where the first DAI Confluence will take place.

This email deals exclusively with additional logistical information.

*It is necessary, that you all fill in the Google Drive DEPARTURE sheet (below), with your departure on 30 October either from Rotterdam Central Station or from Brussels Zaventem Airport, as well as  your return on 8 November. Even if you do not join the bus (due to a good reason, e.g. you live in Paris), please let me know this via email and fill in the link. It's important for us to know wether we have enough seats on the bus or, when to pick you up if you travel directly to St.Erme.

Deadline for adding this information is TOMORROW  18 October.

*The arranged touring car will be departing at 2 PM from Rotterdam Central Station (front side at the Kiss&Ride parking) and at 4 PM at Brussels Zaventem Airport, the link of the meeting point will be in the bulletin, which you will receive before departure.

Our colleague, study trajectory counsellor and education leader Nikos Doulos will be joining you in Rotterdam as well as our second year student Tuba Kilic, who will have the bus checklist.

Please text me or my colleague, hospitality manager Kastė Šeškevičiūte in case you have a delay with your flight.

If the delay is severe, the bus will have to depart to PAF without you, and we will make sure to guide you through another direction with local transport to Paris and then Saint Erme. Most likely a train from Bruxelles Midi to Paris Gare Du Nord and then a train to Laon. Beware that if you end up too late in Paris, there might be no connecting train anymore to Laon Gare Routiere and St-Erme !

*Check your expire date in your passport. Always bring this or an ID with you. It is advised to keep a copy (digital or print) somewhere else in your luggage. Also bring your insurance card always.

*At PAF there are many bedrooms and enough communal showers and toilets. You can bring comfy slippers to get to the shower. You do not have to bring a towel, soap, pillow or sheets, it's all available at PAF. It is an old building, it might be a bit chilly sometimes, but it’s very charming with a beautiful garden. You can already prep yourself by reading How To Live & Study Together at PAF

*Upon arrival you can search for your room in the building, most rooms are on the 2nd floor. As soon as all have filled in the Departure sheet, I will send an accommodation list on 27 October at 9 PM, where you can fill in your room. We will be with approx. 90 people (tutors, students, staff) in total, all beds are taken! Most rooms are for 2 persons, a few communal rooms for 3, 4, 6 or 8 persons.

*For  a brief, first welcome as well as the dinner on the day of arrival we will all meet in the ballroom (basement). Please always carefully read the BULLETIN which contains all necessary information about every DAI -Confluence. The first edition of 2024-2025  is to be published very soon and will then also be sent to all of you via mail.

*IMPORTANT:if you are on a gluten free diet or dealing with another food allergy, please let me know ASAP. Our chefs will have to take this in account in their planning. Meals at DAI are vegetarian / vegan.

*If you have a cat allergy: there is a cat (Buddha) walking around at PAF.  She is ABSOLUTELY not allowed in the bedrooms, as well as in some of the classrooms.

*Just to be on the safe side; bring a COVID test and face masks and some medicine like paracetamol. Sometimes it might be wise to wear a facemask during your flight or in local transport. The flu season started:  if you have symptoms DAI requests you to wear facemasks inside all the time. You can also decide to wear a facemask if you just feel more comfortable to protect yourself against the flu. You do not need to stay home when you are coughing a bit, but please keep your distance in that case and make sure to wear those masks.

See you all on October 30 !

I am looking forward to meet you and so are my colleagues of the entire Planetary Campus Production Team and beyond.

Kind regards,

Jacq van der Spek
