In 2020, the new DAI Friends & Alumni Grant raised money for a grant for second-year DAI students from outside the EU. This grant was to be shared with eligible and interested DAI students, who bear financial burden and/or stress in their second year of study.

In total, the DAI Friends & Alumni Grant raised €3834 for the grant recipient.* This was thanks to your collective contributions. This money is now being transferred to the bank account of the DAI student recipient, Raúl.

*2.9% of all money donated went towards the campaign platform hosts in 2020, GoFundMe and PayPal. The €3834 awarded is the net amount raised.

Raul Silva is an arts researcher: "In the last years I have focused on working from historic memory, approaching the relations between the colonial religious imagery, the ideal of modernity, the paradigm of progress and the aftermath of the internal armed conflict in Perú.

"My methodological approach involves academic research, curatorship and art as a technical medium to build a series of projects based on the reproduction of visual historical archives, texts and artworks. I hold a BA in Fine Arts from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and am currently studying an MA in Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute (ArtEZ).

"Noteworthy recent exhibitions include: Gods are not in nature (2019) in ICPNA Gallery (PE), To align fissures (2018), Contextualization of forms (2017) in Wu Gallery (PE) and Constitutions (2016) in L’Imaginaire Gallery of the French Alliance (PE). I have participated in publications with the following magazines: Bisagra, Textos Arte (PUCP), Ansible, Illaky Times, among others. I was awarded with an Honorable Mention at the Contemporary Art Price (ICPNA, 2018) and the X Painting Salon of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (2018). I was a finalist in the Visual Arts National Prize of Trujillo (2018), Passport for an artist Contest (2015 and 2016) and the ICPNA VII Painting Salon (2015)."

The 2020 DAI Friends & Alumni Grant wishes to sincerely thank those who were able to support the campaign financially — we see you and we thank you all. And we wish to thank all those who were able to support the campaign with emotional, reproductive and other types of labour. This particular thanks extends to Valentina Curandi for her work on the grant, and the DAI staff, who amplified the campaign online and through their networks (as did so many — thank you!) and who supported with logo design.

The 2020 DAI Friends & Alumni Grant conveners are Ulufer Çelik (2018), Clementine Edwards (2018), Lukas Malte Hoffmann (2019) & Zachary Schoenhut (2020). In 2021 we will attempt to formalise the grant, so that we do not have to rely on big media platforms to fundraise.
