Maya’s video works reach excellence in the beautiful and elegant way they are crafted. They are a joy to watch. Nevertheless, at some point in their professional development, an art practitioner may feel the need to explore new creative territories. A pertinent question is always a good starting point to a productive research. Maya’s practice finds itself at a shifting moment that can find great support on deepening a theoretical exploration of the issues she already addresses in her practiced. Her carefully edited videos, which draw from the structuralist film tradition, are no longer focused on staged situations carried out by actors, but by architecture and landscape devoid of human presence. Such change might represent the opportunity to insert new questions and a dose of uncertainty to be developed in a research project, where practice is compensated with theoretical knowledge.
