2016-2018 Agata Cieślak (Poland)

There is a conundrum outlined by Agata’s interests, which include narratives, fiction, conceptual art, production of knowledge and the public distribution of all these. Her reference to contemporary artists – such as for example Seth Price –, who experiment with text as material, indicates the path to conciliate her artistic ambitions. Text occupies a central role in her practice first of all as a narrative medium, in the sense of both enabling a critical discourse around her work and a medium to materialise the work itself. Agata is dealing with a very relevant set of issues that could constitute the basis of a new artistic vocabulary. Whether she decides to simplify the set of questions she is dealing with or to fully embrace their complexity, her upcoming developments will benefit from expanding her research in order to situate her practice in the field of the visual arts.
