"How to Study?"
Thursday, 28 May 2015, 10am–8pm
Funen Art Academy
Brandts Torv 1, 4th floor
DK-5000 Odense C
"How to Study?"investigates contemporary art education, exploring the current circumstances and future methods for educating artists. This seminar brings together educators, curators, artists, students and theorists, asking them to join forces in developing an art education for the future, maintaining a place where the institutional framework still allows room for artistic experimentation.
Increased internationalisation and political pressure on the educational environment have changed the conditions for art academies across the world. All of the contributing speakers are engaged in creating a variety of alternative institutional models and strategies that enhance the field. "How to Study?" has been initiated to create an international forum that enables new ideas and collaborations to form, helping to consolidate the importance of art education in today's political climate.
Funen Art Academy has commissioned the new international anthology Politics of Study. Edited by Sidsel Meineche Hansen and Tom Vandeputte, this book examines alternative frameworks and methodologies of study through a series of conversations with practising artists, theorists and educators. Politics of Study will be launched on the occasion of the seminar and contains contributions by Judy Chicago, Andrea Fraser, Melissa Gordon & Marina Vishmidt, Brian Holmes, Gal Kirn, Suhail Malik, New Centre For Research & Practice, Gerald Raunig and Ruth Sonderegger. The anthology is co-published by Funen Art Academy and Open Editions, London in the series Occasional Table.
