Tom van Imschoot

Tom Van Imschoot (1978) is professor of literature, cultural theory and writing at LUCA; School of Arts, Ghent, and guest professor in the arts at the Faculty of Arts, KU Leuven; He was vice-dean for education at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, KU Leuven Associaton, until it was dismantled in an academic reform movement. In 2006, he obtained a PhD at Ghent
University with a dissertation on Wolfgang Iser, Maurice Blanchot and the Flemish author Louis Paul Boon, regarding the interaction between reading and the imaginary. His main research relates to the experience of fascination, and focuses on issues like empathy, intuition, fictionality in reading, looking and writing. He is a founding editor of the cultural magazine rekto:verso (www.rektoverso.be) and publishes both criticism and essays on culture, literature and art. He also works as a poet, a playwright and a dramaturge.
