Dear colleagues and friends,

With great pleasure I invite you to my upcoming program 'A Point in the Making - Three Days with Babette Mangolte', which will take place upcoming week on wed. May 21st, 22nd and 24th in Amsterdam.

'A Point in the Making - Three Days with Babette Mangolte' brings to Amsterdam the grand dame of experimental film making for a three-day program, which focuses on learning and looking together.

To present the various facets and multidisciplinary character of Babette Mangolte's oeuvre of film and photography to the wide audience, the program will have a variety of presentations formats:

Wednesday May 21st | Film screening The Sky on Location
afterwards Bianca Stigter will be in conversation with the artist
EYE film museum 19:00 - 21:00

Thursday May 22nd | Masterclass Framing Performance
Het Veem Theater
The notion of 'framing' will be our guiding principle for the day. Together with a invited group of professionals and students I will continue my research which questions the notion of framing performance in film, photography, discuss how those media capture movement in space and time, and how to frame performance documentation in the context of an exhibition.

Saturday May 24th | A Point in the Making
Het Veem Theater
The morning session starts with the Dutch premiere of the double screening of Roof Piece (1973) & Roof Piece on the High Line (2012) followed by a conversation with the artist focussing on the forty years lying in-between these two registrations. We will talk about the relationship between performance & documentation, her collaboration with Trisha Brown and the notion of autonomy.

During the afternoon session two of Mangolte's short films (Now) or Maintenant entree parentheses (1976) and There?Where? (1979) will be shown together with two films of Martha Haslanger and Ellie Epp. The conversation is led by Jacob Korczynski who is currently curator in residency at IICD.

Publication
A new publication will be presented alongside of the program. A Point in The Making brings together photography, a newly written text by Babette Mangolte and a short interview with the artist among others.

Looking forward to welcome you on one of the days.

Warm regards,

Fleur
