RONGWRONG and the Stedelijk Museum call for applications / Master classes with Rabih Mroué, Sung Hwan Kim, and Joan Jonas / Fall - Winter 2013
Arnisa Zeqo, ( co-founder and curator at RONGWRONG) kindly asked us to inform you about the upcoming series of three master classes with Rabih Mroué (7 September), Sung Hwan Kim (7 October), and Joan Jonas (date to be confirmed) taking place at RONGWRONG, Amsterdam. Each master class will be accompanied by a stedelijk|forum-‐lecture at the Stedelijk Museum, with Rabih Mroué (8 September), Sung Hwam Kim (6 October) and Joan Jonas in winter 2013 (date to be confirmed). Working artists living in the Netherlands are invited to participate in the master classes and enter in a discussion with Rabih Mroué, Sung Hwan Kim and Joan Jonas in relation to their own practice.
The master classes focus on experimental performative strategies within contemporary art. Coming from different generations, geographical and cultural backgrounds, in their work, Mroué, Sung, and Jonas explore the complexities of performativity within their personal political contexts. While actively scrutinizing and incorporating new technologies in their artistic practice, they constantly challenge the borders and the vocabulary of performance art.
How can the conflicts in the Middle East, feminist resistance and transnational local histories be inscribed in the body and in the personal narratives? During the master classes that will take place over three days, Mroué, Sung, and Jonas will each discuss working methods and artistic strategies with the participating artists within an intimate environment. The master classes are free of charge and will be in English. Participants are also welcome to attend the
stedelijk|forum-‐lecture at the Stedelijk Museum. Unfortunately, travel expenses cannot be covered. Due to the limited spaces available, participants are asked to send a short letter of motivation for their chosen master class (max. 300 words) together with their CV/portfolio (digital format) to Christina Li and Arnisa Zeqo at info@rongwrong.org.
Attending multiple master classes is possible. For the master class with Rabih Mroué, please send your applications with "Master class 2013 Rabih Mroué" in the subject line before 28 August; for the master class with Sung Hwan Kim, please send your applications with "Master class 2013 Sung Hwan Kim" in the subject line before 23 September; details of the date of the master class with Joan Jonas will be announced in the coming months.
