Punt WG Project Space / public presentation 'Cafe Downey's (2013)' / Yunjoo Kwak (DAI, 2011) / Thursday May 23
As part of the Here Comes the Summer Sun rolling programme at the Punt WG Project Space, we are pleased to invite you to the first public presentation of Yunjoo Kwak's film project 'Cafe Downey's (2013)' on Thursday 23 May, 2013 at 20.00.
The project, 'Cafe Downey's', was begun in the framework of Casco - Office for Art, Design and Theory's The Grand Domestic Revolution - User's Manual (2009-2012) programme. The film takes place in Amersfoort and tracks the life in a cafe named Downey's, run by family and their son Arjan with Down Syndrome. Several others with Down Syndrome also work in the cafe as a form of traineeship, together with volunteers who support them. Yunjoo Kwak was one of those volunteers for 6 months during which time she filmed her colleagues, forming ways of communication across language barriers, and coming to understand what she regards as 'the attitude towards disabled people within a part of Dutch society.'
The presentation on 23 May will comprise 'Cafe Downey's' (46mins); 'Cafe Downey's on Interview'(13mins); and 'Cafe Downey's - Arjan' (10mins) and will be followed by a conversation with the artist.
Punt WG Project Space is located in the AteliersWG at M.v.B., Bastiaansestraat 15, 1054 RS, Amsterdam.
