Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2012, India's first Biennale, presents the work of 94 artists from 23 countries, exhibited in over 60 spaces across 14 sites, in Kochi, Kerala, India, from December 12, 2012 to March 3, 2013.
Curators of the inaugural edition; Bose Krishnamachari, Artistic Director; and Riyas Komu, Director of Programmes, have invited artists from India (50) and abroad (44) to instigate a gathering of emerging ideas and ideologies. Kochi-Muziris Biennale provides the occasion to explore critical imagery as a mechanism to process, reflect and rewrite history. Thus different histories—local, individual and collective—converge at Kochi, a space for expression created and leveraged by social activist movements.
