MORE INFORMATION:
Simba the last prince of Ba'ath Country publication
This publication presents an investigation of digitally produced propaganda images created by the Syrian government as well as the Syrian opposition movement and distributed on Facebook and social media. We trace the use of images created within a Western context perhaps for Hollywood movies or banal screensaver images and the re-appropriation of these images as political propaganda. The publication includes a fictional interview with an "image maker" which is modeled on observations from Facebook. What is the motivation of digital propaganda artists, and how is Photoshop used to bring their rhetoric to life?
