In 2010, Casco was commissioned by DAI to develop a two-year educational trajectory for publishing in art practice by reconfiguring the 'DAI Publications' programme founded in 2003 by Gabriëlle Schleijpen, head of DAI. The 'Publishing Class' was then conceived to delve into the act of publishing as a critical art practice, both as a way to make things public – forming publicness – and as a form of dissemination beyond time and space constraints.

In the first year, the program was facilitated by monthly guests, exploring diverse aspects of publishing and its social and political urgencies, exercised through the collective monthly artistic journal 'Spencer's Island'. One notable realization from the year was the student's general desire for intimacy and introspection as a basis for publishing practice. Reflecting this, in the second year, the 'class' operated in three editorial cooperatives, each under the guidance of artists Mattin, Falke Pisano and Wendelien van Oldenborgh respectively. The students teamed up with designers from the Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem to develop each own book, based on the collaboration beyond the established manner of 'art and design' relationship.

We are now very excited to share the outcome of this collaboration — thirteen very singular books and printed matters. Ranging from narratives that recall an 'ethnographic rhythm' of story telling, esoteric chronicles that hover in between universes and mediate liminal spaces, vinyl audio components, experimental scores; and a reflection of mass collective choreography asks us to "TURN!" to consider the complexities of collaborative work and probes us further to interrogate the authorial position. The book launch will feature publications by Eric Philippoz, Sander Uitdehaag, Anna Hoetjes, Magdalena Mellin, Ane Østrem, Ingeborg Entrop, Lara Morais, Marija Sujica, Vanja Smiljanic, Witta Tjan, Rosie Heinrich, Rui Vilela and Toeh Meisami, in collaboration with Ilke Gers, Valentijn Goethals, Bosco Hernández, Niko Mihaljević, Christof Nüssli, Erica Preli, Rutger de Vries, Mathew Whittington, Yin Yin Wong and Hans Gremmen.

The book launch will be accompanied with a guest lecture by Hilde de Bruijn on the prolific publishing activities of artist Asger Jorn from theoretical writing via magazine publishing to experimental and/or instituting practice at 17h30. Throughout the day, you can browse and purchase the books at the 'Publishing Class' kiosk at a special price from 12h00 to 20h00.

The 'Publishing Class' kiosk and book launch take place in the context of the Finissage (from 12h00 to 20h00) of the DAI academic year with a one-day exhibition with works by DAI students curated by Grant Watson as well as a group performance led by artist Ian White.
