The day will be split in two or three parts:
Morning:
Option A. A walk with the artist Constantinos Taliotis around the old city of Nicosia, exploring the subnature, ephemeral ecosystems, and poetic potentials of the many empty plots, followed by a reading / essay performance at the basement of his studio.
Option B. A guided tour around the beautiful and enlightening exhibition Cyprus Insula History – Memory – Reality. Centred around the notions of time, place and people, the exhibition fosters associations and narratives, showcasing aspects of the history and contemporary reality of Cyprus that have contributed to the forging of its inherent insular identity. Featured exhibits include antiquities, folk art, contemporary artworks, historical maps, rare publications, manuscripts and engravings, printed and digital archival material, and digital applications.
Option C. A guided tour around the exhibition “Repetitice Acts: The power of weaving and textile in contemporary art” at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, Associated with the Pierides Foundation [NiMAC]. It explores the enduring power of weaving as a medium of communication, storytelling, and resistance. From ancient Peruvian textiles to contemporary Afghan “War Rugs”, textiles have served as a silent yet eloquent transmitter of meaning and memory. This exhibition brings weaving’s legacy into the present, showing how contemporary artists from Cyprus transcend its domestic associations to become a space for political, cultural, and personal expression.

* Archipelago Weaving:
The Dutch Art Institute (DAI) is an itinerant Master program at the intersection of theory with art, activism, performance and curation. Without a permanent home, students and tutors congregate seven times per year at different places throughout Europe (and beyond) to engage in collective study: making and thinking.
Finding like-minded partners, we connect with local art initiatives, performance and presentation spaces and residencies, weaving an international network, an archipelago of distinct localities and initiatives, each with their own rhythms and objectives. We exchange in a spirit of generosity, holding space while sharing time and knowledges, generating energy, building the community to come.
After DAI@Cagliari 2019 (initiated by Luca Carboni), DAI@Sidi Bou Said 2020 (initiated by Aziza Harmel), DAI@Bergamo 2022 (initiated by Sara Benaglia) DAI@Salina Island 2023 (initiated by Niccolò Masini), DAI@Nida 2023 ( initiated by Egija Inzule), Marina Christodoulidou is the latest DAI person who poetically and practically manages to relate and connect our Roaming Academy to a place she herself so deeply cares for. Our huge gratitude goes out to Marina, but also to her forerunners mentioned here and we hope their visionary work as "Archipelago Weavers" will be inspirational to many others (alumni, tutors, friends). You are welcome to step forward as Archipelago Weaver of futures near and far.
