Valeria Moro ~ affect, embodied contextualized knowledges, poetic poietic narratives, voice, sound, proximity, (dis)location, multi-temporalities, se-duction

Valeria Moro is an artist, researcher and facilitator driven by the need to be multidisciplinary and to work in different forms. By the need to keep moving, questioning and engaging in intimate conversations about what it means to inhabit a place and how relationships are woven, between affection and dwelling.

Out of curiosity and a desire to grasp the subtle dynamics that shape the self in relation to others, Valeria delves into the fissures between the spoken and the unspoken, the known and narrated, the daily performed, and the hidden—whether out of utility, shame, or forgetfulness. She is interested in what is inscribed in the body and unconscious, seeking connections between shared images and enduring stories. Working with the places that host her, Valeria seeks to merge with different environments and give them voice, engaging with their inhabitants in dialogue with interlocutors, myths, alternative archives, epiphanies.

She focuses on a few key elements, often already present, creating essential settings that contribute to dramaturgies at the intersection of installation, performance and sound. In her installations, dense time, abundant words, immersive sounds and light are protagonists. Her primary medium is her voice, expressed through words that are sometimes written. She also employs body movements, traversing diverse geographies in search of something undefined, which often mirrors the act of searching itself. Valeria aims to bring those who witness her work into fractured stories that evoke rather than explain, exploring themes of proximity, (dis)location, intertwined temporalities and shared embodied memories. Through these liminal moments, she hopes to rediscover and reshape self-narratives.

Valeria holds a BA in Anthropological Sciences (2012) and an MA in Planning and Managing Educational Interventions in Social Distress with a specialization in Gender Studies (2016) from the University of Bologna. She also earned an MA in Fine Art from the Academy of Venice (2018) and an MFA in Art Praxis from the Dutch Art Institute (2024). Valeria Moro's contributions to situated and socially engaged projects span artistic, independent and public spaces. She has performed, exhibited and collaborated on community-based and music projects across Italy, the Netherlands and France. Valeria currently lives and works between Italy and the Netherlands.
