On Friday May 17, 2024 dozens of artists and cultural workers in Athens, Greece, organized a protest at EMST, the museum of contemporary art. The protestors called for EMST to publicly denounce the genocide and culturalcide perpertrated by Israel on the Gazan enclave. The action included the collective reading of the names of museums, heritage and cultural sites destroyed in Gaza, as well as an extensive list of artists, writers and cultural workers murdered so far. Banners were displayed calling out the art world's silence, and included signs stating "Artists Against Apartheid" and "There are no museums left in Gaza." The protest also called on EMST's current programming on women to acknowledge the 10,300 women killed in Gaza over the past 7 months. Demands included calls for cultural boycott and divestment.
