Our amazing alum Taka Taka (DAI, 2017) initiated The Closet, a brilliant initiative for youth aged 14 to 18 years old, that aims to foster a sense of belonging through the experimentation with costumes and drag. Take part in workshops by diverse performers and theatre educators with backgrounds ranging from art academies to the club scene starting from 15th of April. As a queer educator, Taka Taka highlights the need for spaces beyond traditional activities, stating: While there are many places for kids to play football in The Netherlands, there are hardly any spaces for them to experiment with costumes, wigs and makeup. DEADLINE: you are welcome to register until 8th of April 2024 !
The Closet is focused on developing tools for non-conforming expression, and open to teenagers (max.15 people) of any gender and background. The course will be given in English.
Location: Studio Erwin Olaf (IJselstraat 28, Amsterdam).
When: Every Monday, 15th April till 15th July 2024
Time: 18-20hrs
Participation, including all materials, is free of charge. No previous experience is required (travel costs can be covered).
The space is wheelchair accessible.
