Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė
Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė works as a filmmaker, theatre director and visual artist. In her creative practice, Rugilė explores the gap between objective and imagined realities while challenging an anthropocentric way of thinking in a playful way.
She completed theatre directing and cinematography studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and screen documentary at Goldsmiths, University of London. Rugile was one of the winners of the Golden Lion for the best national pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Arts in 2019 for the collaborative work Sun & Sea, created with Vaiva Grainytė and Lina Lapelytė.
In parallel to this, Rugile has continued to work in cinema. Her debut feature, Acid Forest, created with Dovydas Korba, was awarded at the Locarno International Film Festival after five years of production and continues to circulate in festivals worldwide.
