Enacting Populism in its Mediascapes / Foundland at Kadist Foundation

| tag: Paris
Dear colleagues and friends,

Foundland (Lauren Alexander, Ghalia Elsrakbi and Dirk Vis) would like to invite you to join us for the opening reception of the "Enacting Populism in its mediæscapes" exhibition, 17th February 2012, at the Kadist Foundation in Paris.

Foundland shows work based on an investigation of pro-regime propaganda images, which are created by the Syrian Electronic army and distributed on Facebook. By working with an archive of Photoshop engineered, mysterious propaganda worlds Foundland unravels the logic and utopian vision of a regime which has legitimated the deaths of thousands of Syrians since early 2011.

We show a new video animation and we will be launching a new publication entitled: “Simba, the last prince of Ba’ath country”. The publication traces the functioning of Facebook and social media for the distribution of digital propaganda, and highlights ways in which these strategies are currently being countered and undermined by activists.

"Enacting Populism in its mediæscapes is open until the 22nd April 2012 and features work by: Alterazioni Video, Heman Chong, Luigi Coppola, Danilo Correale, Nicoline van Harskamp, Steve Lambert, Oliver Ressler, Anna Scalfi Eghenter, Société Réaliste, Jonas Staal, Superflex.

Enacting Populism is an on-going research project, lead by curator Matteo Lucchetti, about the possible relationships between art practices and the populist mediascape that connotes the current political zeitgeist of Europe.

Warm regards,

Ghalia, Lauren and Dirk
