Piret Karro
Piret Karro is a writer, researcher and curator based in Tallinn, Estonia. She is the Curator and Head of Exhibitions at VABAMU Museum of Occupations and Freedom, where she is currently preparing an exhibition on the history of Estonian women’s movements to be opened in March 2023.
Her academic background lies in Semiotics and Gender Studies and her research interests include gender and feminisms, decoloniality, eastern european perspective. Most recently, she has participated at the Artishok Biennale 8: Plants as Witnesses as one of 10 invited art writers, and in the MuseumsLab 2022 knowledge exchange program as a fellow, which included a 2-week curatorial residency at SAVVY.
Since 2021, she is a part of the contemporary performance group The Biofilm Sisters as the dramaturg. She has performed poetry at feminist events and art exhibitions and a selection of her poetry and other texts have been translated into Hungarian, Russian, Lithuanian, and English.
