The horticultural installation will be the first to reference the park’s namesake Sir William Gladstone’s links to slave trade. It will feature a likeness of a Double Drum symbol, a ship, and an anchor that together bring to bear the memories of Black migration and their cultural renewal. Each piece of the installation will consist of plants native to Britain, the Mediterranean and Africa brought into a perfect botanical harmony.

The Anchor, The Drum, The Ship will be planted during the Black History Month October 14th. 2022
