Sofia Montenegro
Sofia Montenegro (Madrid, 1988) is a cultural and event producer based in Barcelona. As an artist, she works mostly with image, sound, text and performative practices. She studied Fine Arts and Cultural Studies between Utrecht and Madrid, and obtained an MA in Art Praxis from the Dutch Art Institute.
Sofía is currently a resident of En Residencia, a program of MACBA, CA2M and LCE, and has collaborated in projects and residencies at Addaya Centre d’Art Contemporani (Mallorca), Lugar a Dudas (Cali), Tbilisi Triennial, Kunstverein Munich and Teatro Pradillo (Madrid). She has exhibited her work at La Escocesa, Bosque R.E.A.L., Ekkisens Art Space (Reykjavik), Laboral Centro de Arte (Gijón), Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid), W139 (Amsterdam), What Remains Gallery (Munich), Ron Mandos Galerie (Amsterdam), Kunstpodium T (Tilburg), among others.
She won the Jan Zumbrink Prijs and the Piet Bakker Prijs in the Netherlands, has been twice selected for Circuitos de Artes Plásticas (Madrid), and recently received an INJUVE production grant (Spain). Sofia co-founded the MilesKm, a collective platform exploring potential alternative structures within the arts.
