Olga Grotova
Olga Grotova takes family history, landscapes, troubled ecologies and experience of displacement as starting points for paintings, videos, texts and performances.
Her work involves journeys to collect and map stories of lives and labours of women that have been erased from the established historical narratives. The artist goes on research journeys to gather first-hand information in order not to rely on male- and power-centric ‘official’ narratives and discovers lost histories from the communities, families and in private archives.
Grotova regards her works and research as interruptions into the Russian political narrative plagued by extraction, imperialism, racism and misogyny.
