Anna Bitkina

ANNA BITKINA is a curator of visual contemporary art, performative and educational projects, she is a co-founder of the female and nomadic curatorial collective TOK. In her durational and transdisciplinary projects Anna aims to generate critical analysis about contemporary reality by addressing implications caused by different forms of dominating ideologies and oppressive powers. She studies complex socio-political environments, urban and industrial locations, traumatised communities, unresolved historical events and nature calamities. Her recent projects include: Echoes of The Sea by Nabil Ali (in collaboration with Museum of Ethnography and Anthropology, Kunstkamera and Sevcable Port, St Petersburg, 2022), solo show Nucleus of Capital by Nina Støttrup Larsen (P-OST, Nijmegen, 2021), performative project by Gluklya (Natalia Pershina-Yakimanskaya) Debates of Division.When Private Becomes Public (2014-2019, various locations), public art project Critical Mass (2011-2021, St Petersburg, various locations). She co-curated the 6th Tallinn Photomonth Biennale and its main exhibition Intensive Places (2021), Get Real! (Gallery Luda, St Petersburg, 2021 and Het Nieuwue Instituut, Rotterdam, 2022), Voicing the Silence (Moscow, CCI, 2021, apexart international open call winner), traveling exhibition United States of Europe (2011-2013), Nordic Art Today: Conceptual Debts, Broken Dreams, New Horizons (2011). Anna was a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berlin and a finalist of the EUNIC competition for curators.
