DAI-bulletin 2005-2006 number one September 2005
This is the first issue of the monthly DAI-bulletin in the academic year 2005-2006, informing you about our program, about important dates and events.
Students: please, PRINT THIS TEXT and keep it with you as an extension to your diary.
Alterations and additions to the program will be e-mailed to you.

Current DAI-student Gerco Lindeboom is one of 5 artists chosen from Dutch postgraduate research institutes to participate in ‘De Intermediale Zone’ a show in Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, curated by Henk Slager.
Current DAI-student Marianne Viero is one of 9 recently graduated artists selected for ‘START’, a group show curated by Maxine Kopsa taking place in Galerie Fons Welters in Amsterdam.
DAI alumnus Lin Shih-Ying shows her video ‘MIJN DROOMBUURT’ (2005) at the Dutch Filmfestival on October 2 at 20PM.
Location: Post CM (opposite the main building of the Centraal Museum Utrecht, Nicolaaskerkhof 10).
In the context of the Amsterdam-China festival DAI alumnus Yee Ling Tang will show a work called Star Ferry Movements in Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam from October 1 till December 31.

WEEK 40
WEDNESDAY October 5
TOOLKIT, an ongoing bi-monthly DAI project by Debra Solomon.
Introductory meeting at 11 AM in the canteen at the DAI.

THURSDAY October 6
DAI-mentors Debra Solomon and Rik Fernhout and Guest Advisor Ansuya Blom (cv at www.galerievangelder.com) will visit students in their studios from half past 10 AM onward.
There will be no schedule. You are supposed to be present in your studio between half past 10 AM and half past 5 PM.
Also: Ricardo Liong-A-Kong present in Computer Room.
FRIDAY October 7
THE CIRCUS, an ongoing bi-monthly DAI project by Rik Fernhout.
Introductory meeting in AMSTERDAM.
A guided tour along 3 different platforms for artists.
Meeting at 11.30 AM in the cafe of the artist run SMART PROJECT SPACE (for location see www.smartprojectspace.net).
DAI-students will be welcomed and shown around by Director Thomas Peutz till 14.00 PM.
From 15.00 onward DAI-students will be welcomed by curator and critic Xander Karskens at Galerie Fons Welters. Xander Karskens will lecture on the intrinsic differences between this highly profiled commercial gallery and the adjacent SMBA, a platform for young art related to the Stedelijk Museum.

WEEK 41
WEDNESDAY October 12
A more or less unscheduled opportunity to meet with Hans van Houwelingen in your private studio. If you are interested to meet with this acclaimed Dutch Public Space artist please contact Hilly for an appointment.
Hans will be around from 12 onward.
THURSDAY October 13
DAI-mentor John Heymans and Guest Advisor Lara Almarcegui will visit students in their studios from half past 10 AM onward.
There will be no schedule. You are supposed to be present in your studio between half past 10 AM and half past 5 PM.

FRIDAY October 14
Two ongoing bi-monthly DAI projects by John Heymans.
1.UNDERSTANDING MEDIA THEORY
From 10.30 AM-1.00 PM, in the Project Room.
The theoretical project Understanding Media Theory is mandatory for all DAI-students, but they don’t need to participate already in it in the first year of their course. However, if they want to participate in another theoretical DAI-project (such as Open Counterpoint, a theoretical project on sound in open space which will start by the end of 2005) they must have finished Understanding Media Theory successfully.
2. WRITING SPACE
2 PM-5 PM, in the Project Room.
The theoretical project Writing Space will be scheduled twice in this course year 2005-2006. The autumn 2005 edition is mandatory for all second year DAI-students. First year students can choose to participate in the spring 2006 edition.

WEEK 42
TO BE CONFIRMED SOON:
DAI excursion to the Istanbul Biennial
Currently we are working out the possibility for departure on the 18th and return on the 23th of October. If you want join this excursion you have to contact Hilly as SOON AS POSSIBLE (meaning: NOW, TODAY, NOT TOMORROW).
As you probably have read on our website: this year’s extra payment that you owe to the DAI for excursions and international projects is 600 euro.
For the Istanbul excursion the DAI will take care of the flight, accomodation and biennal entries. We can only take you to Istanbul if you can make a first payment of at least 200 euros THIS WEEK.
Again: please contact Hilly on this matter as well as on VISA issues (citizens of most countries can buy a visum when arriving at the airport in Istanbul; please check if this is the case for you)
WEEK 43
No DAI-programme because of the autumn break.
