Clementine Edwards ~ Keywords: material, kinship, climate, colonialism, extraction, craft, queer, nuclear family, settler, property, miniatures, storytelling, genre fiction, sexual violence, gender violence, trauma.

Clementine Edwards is a Rotterdam-based artist from Naarm/Melbourne working across sculpture, film, performance, writing and jewellery. Her practice is guided by the ongoing research line material kinship, which thinks material beyond extraction and kinship beyond the nuclear family.

Some things Clementine is interested in include colonialism as the greatest genre novel ever sold; the boorishness of linear time and trauma’s archival lessons; kin-making and caretaking contra (unsexy) settler sex; and the lessons of chemical toxicity in understanding climate colonialism. Making art with her hands while listening to audiobooks is the joy of her professional life. She is trained in gold- and silversmithing, politics and literature.

In 2022 she is a fellow at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam, where she is focussing on miniatures. The editor of countless books, Clementine’s first book as author is The Material Kinship Reader, co-edited by Kris Dittel.
