Artists for Moria ~State of Concept for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières ~ April 21–25, 202 ~ Well before the coronavirus pandemic began, the situation in Moria refugee camp was extremely critical. Now more than ever, solidarity is necessary. Artists for Moria is a fundraiser (organised by our partner State of Concept) to assist the efforts of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) on the island of Lesvos, Greece. 16 international artists are donating their works for this effort. All proceeds go directly to MSF.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, people around the world are facing a global emergency which is overwhelming some of the world’s most organized and well-resourced healthcare systems. Already before the pandemic, the situation in Moria refugee camp was disastrous. Constructed for 2,757 people, it now houses 18,470 children, women, and men. Social distancing is impossible, running water scarce. On March 16, the first cases of COVID-19 were reported, and many have followed since.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is especially concerned about the impact COVID-19 will have on vulnerable people living in precarious conditions or with limited access to healthcare, such as those trapped in overcrowded refugee camps in Greece. For that reason, MSF aims to expand the provision of water and sanitation infrastructures to the camps and are scaling up the recruitment of extra medical, paramedical, support staff and the acquisition of necessary equipment.

Despite urgent calls to address the imminent dangers to all refugees by the COVID-19 pandemic, little action is taken by the Greek government and the European Union. The refugee crisis is also the result of wars waged by many of our governments, and the marginalization of refugees is due to the rise of extreme-right parties and rhetorics across the EU.

We aim to raise attention to the unacceptable conditions in the Greek camps, while we insist on the political obligation for a structural, European-wide defense of refugee rights.

Help MSF by buying a work, by donating directly or by sharing this fundraiser, so that we reach our goal to collect 15,000 euros for Moria refugee camp.

Thank you for your support and solidarity.
