Valentina Curandi (1980) is an art practitioner whose work interlaces performance and text into live acts, printed matter, video and sound works. She often appropriates contracts and protocols to test the resistance to embodied needs and desires, and creates narratives that render the complexities of identity and role performance. An interest in performativity and transmission underlies the work and asks: How do we hold onto the lively aspects of a practice when passing through change? This informs her long term research into the afterlife of artistic practice and a Ph.D. trajectory (within MERIAN (Maastricht Experimental Research In and through the Arts Network) inquiring the capability of practitioners rendered vulnerable by social and artistic standards to leave wishes and make dispositions upon death. 

Valentina studied Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute, and created projects for tanzhaus nrw (D), Kunstlicht (NL), Marwan (NL), Konstfak (SWE), Quadriennale di Roma (IT), ar/ge kunst (IT), Centrale Fies (IT), Kunstraum Munich (D), viafarini (IT), NY Art Book Fair, Flux Factory and Center for Book Arts (U.S.A.), among others.
