Barbara Browning

Barbara Browning is Professor of Performance Studies at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. Her BA, MA and PhD are from Yale University, all in comparative literature. Barbara is a member of the Editorial Board for Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory.

Her academic publications include Samba: Resistance in Motion, Infectious Rhythm, and Caetano Veloso: A Foreign Sound. Recently, her work has turned to intermedia fiction/performance, including novels with ancillary videos and dances:The Correspondence Artist (Two Dollar Radio, 2011, winner of a Lambda Literary Award), I’m Trying to Reach You (Two Dollar Radio, 2012, short-listed for The Believer Book Award), and The Gift, or, Techniques of the Body (Coffee House Press, 2017, winner of a Lambda Literary Award).

Barbara has also published collaborative writings and created live performances with Sébastien Régnier, aka Imre Lodbrog.
