Marti Manen

Marti Manen (Barcelona, 1976) is the director of Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation in Stockholm, where he is based. He has curated exhibitions at Museo de Historia Natural (Mexico City), Aara (Bangkok), Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), Konsthall C (Stockholm), CA2M (Madrid), Miró Foundation (Barcelona). Manen was the curator of the Spanish pavilion at Venice Biennale 2015 and has curated Momentum10 biennial (Moss, Norway, 2019). At the end of the 90’s he curated a five year-program of exhibitions in his student room.

Together with curator David Armengol, he was responsible for the one-year exhibitions program at Fabra I Coats Centre d’art Contemporani (Barcelona) devoted to the connections between art and text. At Index Foundation, his program has been also observing the boundaries and connections between artistic and literary scenes and presented exhibition with artists Mette Edvardsen and Chris Kraus among others.

Marti Manen has published books such as Salir de la exposición (To leave the exhibition) published by Consonni, Contarlo todo sin saber cómo (Telling everything not knowing how) published by CA2M and When Lines Are Time published by Miró Foundation. Contarlo todo sin saber cómo is a novel that is also an exhibition: a fictional narrative plot with around 60 real artworks included. It was published in 2012 and distributed as a novel at the same time that the physical exhibition with some of the works included in the book was presented at CA2M in Madrid.
