The Athens Photo Festival 2019 presents "Vaskos" by Vassilis Noulas & Kostas Tzimoulis (DAI, 2011). Benaki Museum, Pireos. Till July 28

The project ‘Vaskos’ is a series of photographs, drawings and a video. The photographs are staged portraits –one poses whilst the other takes the photo, then they swap positions. Within the final photographic works, a hybrid space between the real and the fantastic creates a game of interwoven role plays, often infused with homoerotic imaginaries. The works on paper reflect a collaborative process much like arm-wrestling –ultimately, it’s hard to pick out who did what and who won. The video attempts a diy recreation of the first edition cover of “A Cyborg Manifesto” by Donna Haraway, thereby challenging the preconceived cultivation of identities. Within a domestic studio workspace, household objects, clothes and diverse raw materials provide diy aesthetics for performative settings. There takes place the fabrication of a homemade queer, ready to confront the public sphere of the town.
