1) Protocols 1,2 and 3 for exhibition documentation
The protocols, designed by Bram van den Berg, draw from the concept of haptic comprehension, Sara Ahmed's writing on phenomenology and techniques such as shot/counter shot. Taken from the field of institutions and bureaucracy, protocols, like Steyerl's „documentality of the documentary truth production“, operate as governing structures that shape the field of possible action within the domain they describe. Though a tool of power and governance, protocols also enable transparency and accountability. They can be challenged, reviewed and referred to – rather than practices and knowledge mysteriously and at will passed on or shared by the ones in power.
Protocols 1, 2 and 3 for exhibition documentation will be presented as an addition to Plat's current show by Jorge Diezma.
Join us Wednesday, 17/04 from 5 – 8:30pm at Plat, Kanaalstraat 195-3, Amsterdam.
(Or: Thursday, 18/04: from 12 - 3:30pm)
2) How to make an exhibition opening
If the common exhibition opening presents an aesthetic experiences of our time - corresponding with a „general performance“ (Sven Lütticken), in which we are potentially always at work, permanently perform, watch and evaluate, and the distinct time zones of labor and leisure have dissolved (just as Kaprow, who’s lecture How to make a Happening serves as a main reference, has argued for the blurring of life and art): then the exhibition opening can potentially also be the locus from where we can practice new forms of aesthetic experience and new forms of production of aesthetic knowledge in correspondence with new forms of organization of labor.
The Common Inn is twelve hour program from noon to midnight during which architects, designers and artists participate in a presentation of exhibitions, talks, performances and screenings. The program is divided in 9 Act, How to make an exhibition opening will be screened in the last act starting at 8pm.
