Gabriel Lester
Gabriel Lester (1972) lives and works in Amsterdam and New York. His artworks consist of installations, performances and film/video. Other activities include art in public space, cinema directing and writing prose. At an early age Lester got involved in electronic music, recording and performing in the Netherlands and abroad. Composing music and writing lyrics led to writing prose and screenplays.
Lester’s main focus has always been (narrative) cinema, until between 1996 and 1999, through several collaborations and experiments with visual art and artists, his attention gradually shifted from cinema to visual arts. From 1999 to 2000 Lester worked at the Rijksakadmie in Amsterdam. Here he found himself drawn to the medium of installation art.
Lester has been an artist in residence at the IASPIS in Stockholm, Capacete in Rio de Janeiro and the ISCP in New York.
