8 June – 2 September 2018
#InfiniteEar

Initiated in 2013 and operating at the intersection of arts, sciences and Deaf culture, Infinite Ear approaches deafness as both an ability and an expertise in hearing. Conceived in collaboration with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, Infinite Ear composes spaces and situations to experience, understand and feel sound in radically different ways.

For Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Infinite Ear has been developed around ideas of inclusivity and performativity. The exhibition will be a space to imagine a museum no longer based on a misleading norm of ‘ability’, where different modes of hearing – tactile, visual, and imaginary, among others, are harmoniously dissonant.

Infinite Ear is curated by Council with Anastasia Mityushina and Iaroslav Volovod, Garage Curators, in collaboration with the Inclusive Department.

The exhibition develops around four main bodies of work: WITHIN, a collection of instruments by Tarek AtouiNew Listeners, films and sculptures by Alison O'DanielA (mis)reader's Guide to Listening, a performative mediation by Lendl Barcelos, Valentina Desideri and Myriam Lefkowitz; and Infinite Ear: Portraits, a publication by Goda Budvytytė with texts by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Vinciane Despret, Mara Mills, Louise Stern, and Sophie Woolley.
