We mourn the passing of Fred Cave 1985 - 2017.
Anniek Brattinga and Armand Mevis, the directors of our sister master program & ally within the ArtEZ Graduate School, the Werkplaats Typografie, conveyed this incredibly sad message concerning their beloved alumnus to us:

Dearest all,
It is with the deepest sadness that we share with you the terrible and shocking news that our great Fred passed away last night in his sleep. Completely unexpected and totally incomprehensible. We will miss his huge generosity, bright presence and sincere attention for the world around him.
Our thoughts go out to his parents and loved ones, we are so sorry for their immense loss.
We will make sure to write you again when news comes to us.

In 2014-2015 Fred took part in, and generously contributed to the year-long DAI-project Cinétracts by Other Means: Notes from Tehran.
He also programmed and designed (together with Laura Pappa) the Publishing Class website, a collaboration between DAI, Werkplaats Typografie and Casco.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to all at the Werkplaats and to Fred's loved ones.
