July 9: Tirza Kater (DAI, 2018) invites us to 'Home Alone', featuring her mother Joke Aarnink, "the artist in residence inside her own home".

Tirza Kater (DAI, 2018) writes to us:

"Right now, my mother, Joke Aarnink, is the artist in residence inside her own home in Amsterdam. On Sunday July 9, 3-6 PM, you are very welcome to see and enjoy where she picked up the thread where she left it in the past.

Her work on paper and canvas is airy and light. So are her colourful handicrafts with yarn and fabric. Both show a love for material, yet seem useless as things in themselves. When made with or for someone else, however, they become tools for sharing, wearing and making together. In that process of making, and being allowed to make, life itself shows its many faces. Then, one could say, the works become even more than just useful.

So, you are warmly invited to come to the house for Home Alone* with Joke Aarnink on Sunday July 9, between 3 and 6 PM. Due to space we can host a limited amount of guests so please click here or answer this email if you would like to come, and we'll let you know about location details.

(*Home Alone is a residency program taking place at the house of Tirza Kater's parents at Vondelstraat in Amsterdam while they are on a holiday.)

Check out www.homealone.nu for more information and for documentation of previous events at the house (in collaboration with Polarlicht).
