BANFF, AB, November 17, 2016 – Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is thrilled to announce that Kristy Trinier has been appointed Director, Visual, Digital and Media Arts, effective January 3, 2017. As a contemporary artist, curator, and culture director, Trinier brings over fifteen years of experience in cultural administration, policy and program development, cultural funds development, art direction, and consultation. Trinier will be responsible for leading the vision and implementation of all visual, digital and media arts training programs at Banff
Centre.  

“As an artist and an administrator, Kristy brings a wealth of experience from some of the leading contemporary arts institutions in the province. Her expertise in both public and Indigenous art makes her a perfect fit for Banff Centre,” says Janice Price, President and CEO, Banff Centre. 

Trinier comes to Banff Centre from her previous role as Curator at the Art Gallery of Alberta, where she organized Future Station: 2015 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, The Blur in Between, and Charrette Roulette cycle of design exhibitions, as well as programming at Enterprise Square Galleries. Her prior roles include Public Art Director at the Edmonton Arts Council, where she managed the City of Edmonton’s Public Art Collection, related exhibitions, and public art programs, and Grant Writer at Banff Centre.

Trinier holds a Bachelors degree in Visual Art and English from the University of Victoria, and a Masters degree in Public Art from the Dutch Art Institute as a Huygens scholar in The Netherlands. She is currently pursuing PhD studies in Philosophy, Art, and Critical Thought at European Graduate School based in Switzerland. She is the Secretary of Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective, a member of MacEwan University Fine Arts Advisory Committee, and co-producer of Publication Studio Edmonton at 66B.
