Afghan union in the Netherlands
For the first time Afghan artists who live in the Netherlands join in a collaborative exhibition in the Netherlands. The Afghan Union in The Netherlands organised the Afghan Art Awards and selected the nominated artists. They present their work in the Van Abbemuseum Studio, ranging from installations to paintings. Sunday 8 February, the Afghan Art Award will be officially awarded by the Afghan Ambassador His Excellency Mr. Obaidullah Obaid.
A blend of both Dutch and Afghan culture is clearly recognizable in the work of the artists. For example Abobakar Ayubi portrets Anne Frank against a fiery background of violence, a reference to the Afghan conflicts.
On February 8th 12 winning artists will receive an award in recognition of their active participation in the Afghan Arts Award. The selected artists of the award show are: Sharif Azizyar, Abobakar Ayubi, Hamid Halimi, Najib Rastagar, Malina Suliman, Haidar Owrang, Wagma Momand, Fardiana Tabibzada, Ahmad Azizyar, Tariq Dawoud, Aref Damee, Shafiq Omar Kakar.
