June 21: What Passes When Watching ~ presentation of a work in progress by Witta Tjan (DAI, 2012) as part of the Midsummer Eve's Potlatch taking place at Witte de With

| tag: Rotterdam

On June 21 2014, 20:00 the artist Witta Tjan will give a presentation of her work in progress, as a part of her current art project with the focus on motherhood and mental illness. The project seeks to explore the clinical and community issues, stigma, as well as artistic and literary coverage of the theme. It is positioned at the intersection of literature, the medical field, and visual/ performance art.The project will use the delineation of existing and creation of new textual formats of "embodying" the persona of the mother with a psychiatric illness, as an organizing artistic principle. The presentation is a part of the conclusion of  (m)other voices: the maternal as an attitude, maternal thinking and the production of time and knowledge is a long-term research project initiated by Deirdre M. Donoghue (artist, Rotterdam) to reflect on the maternal figure as a thinker and a producer of knowledge, rather than as a subject of representation and as a domestic figure inseparable from human emotions. A monthly reading and discussion group invites the audience to join this open inquiry.
