ABSTRACT
In order to understand the background of the practice of writing of a funeral speech, I relate to Jacques Derrida's reflections on 'the gift of death'.
It is the front-line, the place where two enemies meet, and can be compared to the relation between a performer and the audience. In addition, I relate the experience of this front-line to the performances of Dan Graham. How can 'the gift of the death' be seen in relation to changes in the art world, for example in relation to its diverse political circumstances?
